Collection: Ugo Nespolo
Ugo Nespolo was born in 1941 in Mosso (BI), and graduated from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin. In the 1960s, he moved to New York, where he was captivated by the cosmopolitan city life and fascinated by the emerging Pop Art, while in the 1970s he was active in the conceptual and poveristi circles.
His passion for cinema is significant, leading to major retrospectives dedicated to him in prominent international museums (Philadelphia, New York, London, Paris, Cologne, Beijing, Shanghai). Together with Mario Schifano, he founded the Cinema of the artists and between 1967 and 1968 created various films featuring friends and colleagues such as Enrico Baj, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Lucio Fontana as main characters. Despite American influences, he remains mindful of the impact of European avant-gardes. He is also interested in design, with his research focusing on materials: wood, metal, glass, ceramics, cloth, precious stones. His art is therefore closely connected to daily life and rich in conceptual contributions: "You cannot make art without thinking about art."
