Collection: Johannes Steinbauer

Driven by his roots in craftsmanship, Johannes Steinbauer Office for Design develops furniture that strives for an efficient, reduced, almost naive design language. Johannes Steinbauer grew up in the countryside in a household of 4th-generation carpenters. Fascinated by craftsmanship, he followed his family tradition by training as a cabinetmaker. At 19, he worked for Tetrimäki Furniture Vision, a carpentry workshop in Finland. In producing elaborate Art Nouveau furniture in small series, he learned to approach projects with great precision and patience. After working in his profession for several years and obtaining his master certificate, he went on to study industrial design at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch-Gmünd.

From 2011 to 2012, he worked for Studio Neuland in Munich on projects for international clients such as Nils Holger Moorman, MDF-Italia, Kristalia, Bulthaup, and Freifrau. In 2012, he founded his own studio, which is located in an old workshop. Johannes Steinbauer works with an intuitive approach, still driven by his fascination with craftsmanship. He always strives for an efficient, reduced, almost naive solution that leads to a strong characteristic design language. Johannes Steinbauer creates furniture, accessories, and lighting for international clients like Authentics, Rolf Benz, and Softline.
